Nido Gallery exhibits panoramic series by Joao de Brito

11/12/2004 - Moss Landing, CA—Portuguese- American artist João de Brito, painting California scenes not only unleashes creativity, but brings a sense of well-being and familiarity. Starting October 30, 2004, de Brito’s nature-inspired oils – gleaned from many scenic sites around Elkhorn Slough nature reserve – will be available for viewing at the Nido Gallery in Moss Landing until January 22, 2005.
Having lived in California for more than 25 years, de Brito has spent a lot of time painting its natural beauty. As a result, he is often stirred to put brush to canvas, depicting his own California imagery with vibrant colors. “Sometimes I think I see colors much different then most people,” de Brito explains. “I wander away from the most visited places at different times of the day so my paintings offer unique perspectives with unusual shades, sites and angles.”
De Brito not only draws from his Portuguese - Azorean roots when painting in oils, he incorporates influences by great French fauvists, early California and Portuguese impressionists

The six paintings in the artist’s current series ,of the Elkhorn Slough grasslands, rolling hills, groves of eucalyptus and Monterey pine provide a focal point.
Most recently de Brito exhibited his art in Provincetown, Massachusetts, San Jose, Santa Cruz and Capitola, California.
He just returned from a painting trip in Italy, for upcoming winter-spring exhibits.” I travel extensively to have accurate knowledge of my next painting”

In California De Brito is represented by Many Hands Gallery’s in Santa Cruz and Capitola, in Cape Cod, Thanassi Gallery represents him in Provincetown.
